La Dimora di Antosa

A restoration project that transforms dwelling into a perceptual experience, in constant dialogue with the landscape of the Sassi.

La Dimora di Antosa is a renovation and interior design intervention located in one of the most evocative areas of Matera, directly overlooking the Sassi districts.

The historic residence, dating back to the 16th century, originally featured a highly compartmentalized layout, scarcely permeable to natural light.
The project arises from the intention to reinterpret the domestic space through a contemporary approach, while maintaining a deep connection with its historical and landscape context.

The intervention does not erase the building’s memory; rather, it uses it as the foundation of the design process.

Spatial continuity and relationship with the landscape

The core of the project lies in transforming the house into a fluid organism, capable of establishing a direct relationship between interior and exterior.

The new spatial configuration prioritizes:

• visual continuity
• permeability to light
• constant connection with the Sassi landscape

Domestic space thus becomes an emotional experience rather than a simple sequence of rooms.

On the ground floor, spaces are conceived as a single continuous environment, where kitchen, dining area and entrance intertwine in a free-flowing path that culminates in panoramic views.

The upper floor accommodates a more intimate and protected zone, including:

• bedroom
• suspended walkway
• relaxation area

The vertical section of the building becomes a key design element, amplifying the perception of space and light.

The selection of materials and colors is guided by a search for balance and restraint:

• light and luminous surfaces
• natural materials
• bespoke custom-designed furnishings
• integrated and discreet lighting

Every detail is conceived to accompany the spatial experience without ever overwhelming it.

Natural light plays a leading role, flowing continuously through the house and enhancing heights and surfaces.

Artificial lighting intervenes with discretion, reinforcing the intimate and enveloping atmosphere of the dwelling.
